AND THE BEAT GOES ON - Shanghai, China
Project type
Art Exhibition
Date
Jun.15, 2021 - Aug.15, 2021
Location
Shanghai, China
As Shanghai continues to gain an international reputation for being the beating heart of creativity and culture in China, local artists are also gaining more confidence in their own voices on the global stage.
Here, urban forms of expression take on a distinctly local flavor that is influenced, but not defined, by the early innovators of New York Citys East Village scene in the 1970s and 1980s, the birthplace of modern hip-hop, graffiti, punk rock, and more.
With over 78 pieces of original artwork from the early masters of urban art in New York City, including Jean-Michel Basquiat , Daze, Crash, and more, And the Beat Goes On explores a wide variety of key players within a new generation of urban artists in China, and examines their unique contributions to the ongoing rhythms of global youth culture.
Against the pulsating bassline set forth by the early pioneers of the East Village nearly 40 years ago, this art exhibitions paints a global picture of a youth culture that never did grow old, fade away, or die down. In the streets of Shanghai, it only grew louder, bolder, and more confident.
